Sanyo Chemical PEG Polyethylene Glycol
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) provides a wide range of functions and is available in an extensive lineup of molecular weights.
Benefit
1. High Water Solubility
Polyethylene glycol is readily soluble in water, and its solubility is unaffected by electrolytes, hard water, or ordinary acidic and alkaline environments.
2. Wide Range of Molecular Weights
Sanyo Chemical offers a broad PEG lineup ranging from low-molecular-weight liquids to high-molecular-weight solids.Different molecular weights can impart functions such as smoothness, lubrication, thickening, plasticization, and antistatic performance.
3. Chemical Reactivity
Polyethylene glycol has primary hydroxyl groups at both ends and is readily modified through esterification, etherification, amination, or carboxylation. It is an important raw material for synthesizing surfactants, polyesters, and polyurethanes.
4. High Safety
Polyethylene glycol has extremely low skin irritation and toxicity and is widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
Applications
• Wetting and penetration • Dispersion • Lubrication and smoothing • Plasticization and softening • Viscosity adjustment • Binding and adhesion
• Antistatic performance • Cooling and heat storage • Synthesis, polymerization, and molding raw material • Solubilization • Other functions

| Cosmetics and Personal Care |
General-Purpose Base Material:
As a general base material for hair- and skin-care products, this water-soluble material has low acute toxicity and low eye and skin irritation.
Humectant, Wetting Agent, and Solvent:
Suitable for a wide range of cosmetic and personal-care products.
Biodegradability:
Biodegradable.
Humectant:
Can be used as a moisturizing ingredient in toothpaste, facial cleansers, hair-care products, and wet wipes. |
| Textiles |
Bonding Aid:
When used in sewing bonded fabrics such as polyester, nylon, and rayon, it imparts softness and antistatic properties, prevents adhesive from sticking to the needle, significantly improves sewability, and effectively prevents adhesive skinning.
Pore-Forming Agent:
Can be used as a pore-forming aid for hollow and porous fibers. |
| Paper Manufacturing |
Softener:
A low-volatility paper softener that imparts long-lasting softness to paper. |
| Resins |
Resin Modifier:
By using the hydroxyl groups at both ends of PEG to modify polyester, alkyd, and polyurethane resins, properties such as flexibility and hydrophilicity can be imparted to the resin. |
| Wood |
Anti-Cracking Agent:
When wood is immersed in an aqueous solution of this product, PEG replaces the water in the wood, reducing dimensional changes and effectively preventing cracking. |
| Agriculture |
Formulation Aid:
Effectively improves the flowability of powders, suspension concentrates (SC), and dry flowables (DF) and prevents caking. |
| Chemical Products |
Surfactant Raw Material:
The hydroxyl groups at both ends of PEG can be used to synthesize a variety of surfactants. Esters formed with higher fatty acids are typical surfactants widely used in emulsifiers, dispersants, detergents, and other products.
Chemical Raw Material:
By modifying the hydroxyl groups at both ends of PEG through alkyl etherification, amination, carboxylation, glycidyl etherification, esterification, and other reactions, it can be used as a raw material for various chemical products. |
| Others |
Viscosity Modifier:
When used as a viscosity modifier for ballpoint-pen ink, it effectively prevents ink skipping and significantly improves writing performance.
Heat-Transfer Medium:
Its high boiling point, high specific heat capacity, and excellent thermal stability make it suitable as a heat-transfer medium. Its water solubility also makes cleaning easier.
Thermal-Storage Material:
Its high heat of fusion makes it particularly suitable as a thermal-storage material. |
