Advantages of Silver-Ion Inorganic Antibacterial Agents
1. Safety — Internationally Recognized and Trusted
Silver-ion antibacterial agents are insensitive to ultraviolet exposure, do not cause corrosion or galvanic corrosion of metals, are nonvolatile, and do not react chemically with most organic or inorganic substances (except compounds capable of reducing silver). These properties ensure high stability in demanding operating environments.
More importantly, antibacterial glass requires substantial technical expertise and capital investment. Our silver-ion inorganic antibacterial agents meet these demanding standards and have obtained recognition from multiple international bodies, including:
EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)
FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
NSF (National Sanitation Foundation, USA)
EFSA (European Food Safety Authority)
BPR (EU Biocidal Products Regulation)
The products have also passed REACH and RoHS testing, demonstrating compliance with stringent international safety standards.
2. Long-Lasting Performance — Controlled Release for Lasting Protection
Long-term efficacy and rapid action are often competing objectives in antibacterial-agent design.
Rapid action requires large quantities of silver ions to be released quickly. This can cause yellowing, sharply shorten product life, and potentially exceed regulatory safety limits. If release is too slow, however, effective antibacterial performance cannot be achieved. A truly effective solution therefore depends on balancing safe use with controlled ion release.
Our approach uses the unique properties of glass to incorporate silver ions into the glass matrix, creating a durable antibacterial glass material with controlled, sustained release for long-lasting protection.
3. Heat Resistance — High-Temperature Resistance and Process Compatibility
Processing conditions vary by antibacterial material and application; plastics molding, for example, typically takes place at 200–300°C. Because both the active component and carrier in silver-based antibacterial agents are inorganic, they provide excellent thermal stability (500–800°C), withstanding a wide range of processing conditions without decomposition or loss of performance.
4. Dispersibility — Flexible Addition with Uniform, Efficient Dispersion
The dispersion of an antibacterial agent within a product is a key factor affecting performance. Depending on customer requirements, we offer the material in either powder or masterbatch form:
Antibacterial masterbatch: A high concentration of antibacterial agent is uniformly dispersed in a resin matrix through twin-screw extrusion, making it suitable for high-volume production.
Antibacterial powder: In easily blended powdered plastics such as PVC, the powder can be added directly for simple, convenient processing.
Strict particle-size control minimizes batch-to-batch variation, enabling the product to meet the requirements of diverse processing methods while delivering consistent antibacterial performance.
5. High Efficiency — Powerful Antibacterial Performance at Low Addition Rates
No other metal ion matches silver in antibacterial efficacy. Silver ions provide outstanding antibacterial performance at very low addition rates:
First, positively charged silver ions are strongly attracted to the negatively charged bacterial surface, damaging the cell membrane and ultimately causing cell rupture.
Second, silver ions act as catalysts that generate reactive oxygen species in water, disrupting key enzyme systems within bacterial cells and providing broad-spectrum action against numerous bacteria.
