NOVARON Antibacterial Agent for Fibers and Films

Features

• Can be incorporated into fibers during spinning
• High heat resistance (800°C)
• Long-lasting antibacterial performance

Metal ions act on enzymes inside bacterial cells,
inhibiting their metabolic activity

Grade

Grade Characteristics Average Particle Size (μm) Specific Gravity Moisture Content (wt%)
AG300 General-purpose 1 3.0 0.2
AG1100 High antibacterial activity 1 3.0 0.2
AGT330F For fibers 1 4.2 0.4

1) Includes grades registered with the U.S. FDA and EPA
2) Includes products registered with SIAA (Society of International Sustaining Growth for Antibacterial Articles)

Fiber Processing Performance

The small particle size and narrow particle-size distribution enable compounding and melt spinning. Low moisture content and low hygroscopicity help prevent foaming during processing.

Antibacterial Performance

Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)
* Minimum concentration of antibacterial agent required to inhibit cell proliferation (μg/mL)

Microorganism Characteristics AG300
Escherichia coli Indicator organism for food and drinking-water contamination 125
Escherichia coli O157:H7 Vero toxin-producing bacterium that can cause food poisoning 200
Pseudomonas aeruginosa Pathogen associated with spoilage of fish and meat 125
Salmonella Bacterium that can cause typhoid fever and food poisoning 250
Staphylococcus aureus Bacterium that can cause suppuration, sepsis, and food poisoning 250
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Pathogen associated with healthcare-acquired infections 250
Bacillus subtilis A major spoilage organism in milk and meat 250
Klebsiella pneumoniae Bacterium that can cause pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and sepsis 128

Antibacterial Performance in Polyester Fiber — Addition Rate: 0.5%

* Bacterial growth on the treated fabric is compared with that on the reference fabric and expressed as the difference in common logarithms.
• Initial performance is equivalent.
• After laundering, NOVARON retains its effectiveness, while other types of antibacterial agents show reduced performance.

Antibacterial Activity after Laundering
* Comparison with a conventional inorganic antibacterial agent (JIS L 1902)
